6. Accessibility Features and Compliance

FUTURENEXT SRL has implemented a series of measures to ensure that the “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke configurator is accessible and compatible with assistive technologies, with the goal of improving usability for all users.

Following specific technical assessments, a technical report was produced indicating which corrections and improvements were necessary to fulfil the applicable accessibility criteria.

The accessibility features implemented and available to users include (but are not limited to):

  • Compatibility with assistive technologies (e.g., NVDA, Jaws)

  • Keyboard navigation

  • Adequate color contrast

  • Text alternatives for graphic and multimedia content

  • Zoom and text resizing

  • Subtitles for multimedia content and text transcripts

  • Control of animations and reduction of non-essential motion

  • Forms and input fields with clear labels for easier interaction

For users of assistive technologies such as screen readers, alternative keyboards, or voice commands, accessibility is also supported through the use of ARIA attributes. These attributes:

  • Describe the role, state, and properties of user interface elements

  • Communicate dynamic interactions (e.g., expandable menus, modals, sliders) to screen readers

  • Support keyboard navigation in complex components

7. Accessibility Widget

To further enhance accessibility and the user experience, the “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke configurator integrates an Accessibility Widget (Widget).

  • The Widget is free of charge for end users.

  • It helps improve compliance with WCAG 2.1.

  • It can be opened by clicking the Widget icon or using the keyboard shortcut CTRL + U.

The Widget offers various functions, including:

  • Screen reader: reads page content aloud without requiring external software.

  • Dictionary: allows users to access dictionaries without leaving the site, useful for users with cognitive disabilities or non-native English speakers.

  • Larger text: offers four levels of text enlargement for improved readability.

  • Saturation: adjusts color intensity (high, low, or grayscale).

  • Contrast: inverts site colors or switches between light and dark contrast modes.

  • Smart contrast: ensures colors comply with ADA standards, improving content visibility.

  • Highlight links: highlights links, buttons, and interactive elements with high-contrast colors.

  • Pause animations: pauses moving or automatically updated content, which can be a barrier or trigger (e.g. for users at risk of epileptic seizures).

  • Text spacing: adjusts text and line spacing, with three levels of customization.

  • Line height: increases line height to improve reading comfort.

  • Text alignment: allows text alignment to the left, right, or center.

  • Dyslexia-friendly font: applies the “UserWay Dyslexia Friendly” font.

  • Large cursor: enlarges the cursor by 400% for better visibility.

  • Tooltips: displays alternative text and ARIA labels when hovering over on-screen elements.

  • Page structure: reveals headings, landmarks, and links in a clear, structured, easily navigable format.

In addition to user-triggered features, the Widget is capable of detecting many accessibility issues and performing real-time corrections without modifying the source code, but rather the content rendered in the browser. This makes the website more accessible and usable for all, including users of assistive technologies.

8. Conformance Status

To determine the conformance status of the “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke configurator, FUTURENEXT SRL used the guidelines and evaluation checklist made available by AgID for websites.

A technical assessment performed by an accessibility expert found that the service is compliant with the requirements of Appendix A of UNI CEI EN 301549, as it satisfies all criteria deemed applicable.

This Accessibility Policy also considers the non-compliances corrected by the Widget as resolved, since the modifications implemented by the Widget meet the success criteria required by current regulations.
