In Italy, the requirements for digital accessibility are defined by Legislative Decree 27 May 2022, No. 82, “Implementation of Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on the accessibility requirements for products and services.” For technical aspects, this decree refers to the standard UNI EN 301549.

The “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke configurator complies with the criteria of WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA.

The four fundamental principles of digital accessibility set out in WCAG 2.1 are:

4. General Description of the Service

The “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke configurator is a SaaS (Software as a Service) tool that allows users to visually customize products in real time in 2D (two dimensions).

Specifically, the service enables the user to configure various customization options for products, ranging from simple text and image application to more complex rules. The configurator presents a real-time preview of the resulting customized product.

The “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke configurator offers three main customization modes to end users:

  1. Full customization of a blank product, with the option to design any desired content

  2. Customization of a blank product with limited options (for example, adding any text but only in a specific color)

5. Service Operation

  • Select and apply preset images:
     Users can select the button dedicated to images, choose a category or enter a search term, and then select a specific image via the corresponding button.

  • Select and apply editable text:
     Using the text button in the main toolbar, users can add text to the product by entering it into the relevant form. They can then modify properties such as font, style, color, and size until the desired result is achieved.

  • Select and apply a fill:
     Users can fill the product with colors by selecting the fill button in the main toolbar and then choosing one of the available options.

  • Select and apply a collage:
     Users can select and apply collages by choosing the dedicated button in the toolbar and selecting the option of interest from the popup.

  • Select and apply shapes:
     Users can select and apply shapes using the specific button in the main toolbar, choosing a category or entering a search term, and then confirming the option via the corresponding button.

  • Modify design elements directly on the product:
     Users can modify selected images directly on the product using the mobile toolbar and choosing from the available options.

  • Save the project:
     Users can save their project by selecting the dedicated button.

  • Share the project:
     Users can share their project by selecting the dedicated button.

  • Generate a project preview:
     Users can generate a preview of the project by selecting the appropriate button.

  • Print the project in PDF:
     After generating a preview, users can print the project in PDF format by selecting the dedicated button in the popup window.

  • Add the product to the cart:
     Users can add the product to the shopping cart by selecting the dedicated button.

6. Accessibility Features and Compliance

FUTURENEXT SRL has implemented a series of measures to ensure that the “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke configurator is accessible and compatible with assistive technologies, with the goal of improving usability for all users.

Following specific technical assessments, a technical report was produced indicating which corrections and improvements were necessary to fulfil the applicable accessibility criteria.

  • Text alignment: allows text alignment to the left, right, or center.

  • Dyslexia-friendly font: applies the “UserWay Dyslexia Friendly” font.

  • Large cursor: enlarges the cursor by 400% for better visibility.

  • Tooltips: displays alternative text and ARIA labels when hovering over on-screen elements.

  • Page structure: reveals headings, landmarks, and links in a clear, structured, easily navigable format.

In addition to user-triggered features, the Widget is capable of detecting many accessibility issues and performing real-time corrections without modifying the source code, but rather the content rendered in the browser. This makes the website more accessible and usable for all, including users of assistive technologies.

8. Conformance Status

To determine the conformance status of the “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke configurator, FUTURENEXT SRL used the guidelines and evaluation checklist made available by AgID for websites.

A technical assessment performed by an accessibility expert found that the service is compliant with the requirements of Appendix A of UNI CEI EN 301549, as it satisfies all criteria deemed applicable.

This Accessibility Policy also considers the non-compliances corrected by the Widget as resolved, since the modifications implemented by the Widget meet the success criteria required by current regulations.

9. Accessibility Monitoring Process

FUTURENEXT SRL has devoted significant attention to ensuring that the service delivery process meets digital accessibility requirements. To this end, it has also engaged external consultants to perform the following:

  • Technical accessibility assessment of the “Visual Product Customizer” Zakeke through a gap analysis

  • User testing of key user flows, including tests using assistive technologies

  • Analysis of technologies, plugins, and third-party services implemented on the website

  • Reporting of gaps and non-compliances identified during technical checks and tests
